[Digital Today Reporter Choo Hyun-woo] The US Today reported on the 27th (local time) that the US New York State has unveiled a digital vaccine passport that allows you to check whether you have been vaccinated against Corona 19.

The Corona 19 vaccine passport, developed by New York State, is in the form of a smartphone app called Excelsior Pass. You can present the vaccination certificate as a QR code in the app, or you can print the vaccination confirmation on a printer.

New York State prioritizes digital vaccine passports for large events, group gatherings, and performances. It has been announced that it will be applied first in small events such as weddings from April. However, it is not mandatory and encourages the voluntary participation of citizens.

The development of the Excelsior Pass Wallet was handled by IBM. The blockchain-based distributed ledger (DLT) technology is applied, and through this, it is possible to safely perform the vaccine passport function without worrying about storing or tracking health information such as personal medical records, IBM explained.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said, “The Excelsior Pass is a new tool to help you win the battle against Corona 19,” and said, “We plan to gradually expand the application of the pass to expand the use of the pass.”

After China and Israel piloted vaccine passports, the United States, the European Union and Japan are also preparing to introduce digital vaccine passports.
