[Digital Today Correspondent Hwang Chi-gyu] Shopify, a shopping mall construction and operation platform, has acquired Primer Team, an augmented reality (AR) startup. Specific terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Primer has been using AR technology to provide users with a service that allows them to visualize how tiles, wallpapers, etc. will look in their home.
After being acquired by Shopify, Primer will stop apps and services from next month and join Shopify. Shopify is expected to use Primer technology to provide AR-related functions to companies and individuals running shopping malls on its platform.
According to TechCrunch reports, Primer has also worked with more than a dozen tile and textile design brands. Users have been using the iPhone and Apple’s AR platform, ARKit, to help users visualize their designs.
