According to The Block on May 24 (local time), Marathon Digital announced plans to build a new Bitcoin mining facility in partnership with Compute North.
The new facility will house 73,000 ASIC miners in Texas, and the company will promise about 70% carbon neutrality. Marathon estimates that the total hashrate will rise to 10.37 EH/s, achieving a cost of $0.0453 per kWh. Marathon shares have risen almost 5% since the news.
US-based Bitcoin mining has been on the rise in recent months. While most of the mining has historically occurred in China, new government crackdowns are witnessing hashrate leaving China.
